Sand Mining & Estuary Monitoring

Coastwatch is concerned that the loss of sand reaching beaches as a result of sand mining within our river systems is exacerbating the problem of coastal erosion. We are currently undertaking a comparison to show how the problem has increased over the past 10 years.  This Project is being made possible by collaboration between Coastwatch, MER (Marine &Estuarine Research), with the Aircraft and Operator donated by The Bataleurs.Protecting the integrity of estuaries from mining along with other developments is an area where Coastwatch is active. This includes reviewing and commenting on Estuary Management Plans, and commenting on developmental Impact studies.
